Martin Rhonheimer was born in 1950 in Zürich, Switzerland. He studied History, Philosophy, Political Science, and Theology in Zürich and Rome. He holds a Doctorate in Philosophy from the University of Zürich. In 1983, he was ordained a Catholic priest incardinated in the Prelature of the Holy Cross and Opus Dei. From 1990 to 2020, he was Professor of Ethics and Political Philosophy at the Faculty of Philosophy of the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross in Rome. He remains associated with the University as a visiting professor. In 2014, he co-founded in Vienna the Austrian Institute of Economics and Social Philosophy of which he is the president. He lives Vienna.
He is the author of Natural Law and Practical Reason (New York: Fordham University Press, 2000) and the following, all published by The Catholic University of America Press: The Perspective of the Acting Person (2008), Vital Conflicts in Medical Ethics (2009); Ethics of Procreation and the Defense of Human Life (2010); The Perspective of Morality: An Introduction to Thomistic Virtue Ethics (2011); The Common Good of Constitutional Democracy (2013). Moreover, he has published in Spanish, Libertad económica, capitalismo y ética cristiana (Madrid: Unión Editorial, 2017).
